Preparing for Longarming Is Easy
Review these tips and tricks for best results
These Small Steps Make a Big Difference
Longarm machine quilting will elevate your quilt to the next level. Follow these simple guidelines for the best possible results.
Quilt Back Size
Your quilt backing and batting should be 5" bigger all around your quilt. Thats 10" wider and 10" longer total!
Clip all loose threads.
Don't pull them or you risk puckering and raveling.
Ironed, Flat, and Square
Quilt top and back should be ironed and flat. I can absorb a lot of fullness in the quilting process, but best quiling starts with a flat top and back.
Quilt top, backing, and batting should be completely square. Otherwise, your quilting will not be straight or your quilt could have puckers. Make sure your borders are not wavy or full by using pins to piece borders.
I love pieced backing
Pieced backing is great! It's modern and sustainable. But make sure your seams are horizontal across the backing of the quilt when you can. This way, your quilt is not rolled out of square on the frame. Most importantly, the back must be flat, I can't see it when I'm quilting!
Press seams open?
If you like to press your seams open, shorten your stitch length to keep your seams from wobbling or coming open
Which way is up?
If your quilt top or backing is directional, hang a marker in the top left corner to draw my attention to it.!
That's It!
That's it! Carefully planning for the longarmer provides for the best results. Quilts that require extra preparation or repair will be fixed at a rate of $40 per hour or portion there of. Other repair services are listed on the menu.
